ABOUT US
The Friends of Old Town Rec (FoOTR) was formed to help preserve and enhance the quality of Old Town Recreation Ground for the enjoyment and benefit of all users.
Membership is open to people who live next to the Rec or nearby, those who use it for recreation or leisure, and anyone who wants to help preserve this vital ‘green lung’ in the heart of Old Town.
Old Town Rec has achieved Queen Elizabeth II Field status, to protect it against development in perpetuity. The Rec has been awarded a ‘Green Flag’ for three years in succession as a mark of the commitment of the Borough Council to maintain and continue to improve the open space. As well as football pitches and tennis courts recently refurbished to a high standard, the Rec has an attractive children’s play area. In 2018, FoOTR installed an Interpretation Board explaining the creation and history of the Rec.
FoOTR has helped to improve biodiversity through planting bulbs, hedging whips, new trees and shrubs, and wildflowers in the Rec; and installing bird, bat and bug boxes constructed by local children. We encourage responsible use of the Rec by dog walkers; and encourage young people to take an active interest in the well-being of Old Town Rec.
FoOTR's ‘wish list’ of projects includes the creation of a trim trail for all ages around the perimeter of Old Town Rec, installation of cycle racks and the construction of a petanque court.
But we need your help and support to continue and extend our activities. You can help ensure that this vital open space is protected for current and future generations, by joining the Eastbourne Local Lottery today.
Thank you for your support and good luck!
Yours sincerely
Mark Moorton (Hon. Secretary)
